- Knead or quark with flour, salt, eggs and as much warm milk as necessary to form a smooth, firm dough. It is best to knead by hand (the dough is too dry for the machine), the milk should be kept to a minimum and no more than 10 mL should be needed.
- Shape the dough into a roll and cut into ~15 pieces.
- Wash the apricots or plums, remove the stones and put 1 sugar cube in place of the stone.
- Wrap each apricot or plum completely in a piece of pastry.
- Place the prepared dumplings in boiling salted water and cook slowly for approx. 15 minutes. Stir carefully with a wooden spoon while cooking, otherwise the dumplings will stick to the bottom.
- Toast the breadcrumbs in the melted butter until light brown.
- Pour the breadcrumbs onto the dumplings and sprinkle with icing sugar as required.
