- Cut the onion into thin slices.
- Mix the vinegar with the water and bring to the boil with the salt.
- Place the onion in a preserving jar and pour the boiling liquid over it until everything is covered. If necessary, top up with more vinegar and water. The onions will initially float to the top, but make sure they are still covered by the preserving liquid. Over the next few hours, the onions will sink to the bottom.
